Bal Bikas Boarding High School is a shrine of learning pursuing academic excellence
since the beginning of its establishment in 2051 B.S. It was established by Shanker Das Shrestha,
the social worker and Brahmadev Shrestha, the then vice-principal of Shree Ganesh Secondary
School. The school is located in Budhanilkantha Municipality ward no 3, right on the lap of
Shivapuri hill, almost eight kilometers away towards the north from the heart of Kathmandu
valley. The school is surrounded by the shrine of Budhanilkantha Temple from the East,
ISKCON temple from the west and Jamchen Vijaya Stupa from the North. Therefore, one can
find the religious vibration in the school. The serene atmosphere and solitary location of the
school creates conducive environment for teaching and learning. It was a time almost 25 years
before when there was no school in the locality to impart quality education to the students. For
that reason, the students of this areas ware compelled to go to the city areas for their education.
The purpose of establishing this school was to impart quality education to them in their own
area. Therefore, Shanker Das Shrestha, on the day of Basantapanchami established this school at
his own home. As he was involved in social service for long, this made him enable to collect
240 students on the very year of establishment of the school. Therefore, it was possible to run the
classes from nursery to four. Today the school is running in its 25 th year. During these long years,
the school has produced so many students whose placement in the top ranking colleges and
universities of Nepal and abroad makes the school feel proud. In the same way, the students who
have passed out from this school have become doctors, engineers, social workers, teachers,
lieutenants, captains and are even working in the government level offices. This is not only the
pride but also the success of this school.
This is a school where the students from different ethnic background, religions, casts and
classes study and receive quality education without any discrimination. In order to meet the
requirements of the time relative education and remain updated about the course, it has been
giving emphasis on teacher’s trainings. Being English medium school, it teaches every subject in
English medium, but at the same time gives importance to Nepali language, as well. In addition
to this, the school has also been providing free Chinese language classes for the last three years.
Our language, culture, moral values, music, dance, and so on are our assets. They give us our
identity, and help us to connect to our roots. This school is providing dance, music and art
classes to explore and unveil latent talents of the students. To make the students physically fit
and fine, the school has been providing Martial Arts classes. Many students find homely
environment in school. Therefore, this school is not only an educational institution but also a

structure, making it accessible to everyone, this school has been providing full and partial
scholarship to the poor, helpless, destitute and studious students depending on their economic
condition. Thereby, the school is encouraging and motivating the students to persist on their

have received scholarship. As every year, the school is committed to continue the scholarship
programme this year too. The school has certain criteria for the scholarship programme. If the
students meet those requirements, then the students get scholarship for their study. Besides, the
students who come first, second and the third position in their classes get 100 per cent, 50per
cent and 25 per cent scholarship respectively.
